Looks like House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi is among the many supporters shipping a Hillary Clinton Presidential Campaign in 2016. At an appearance in the 92nd Street Y in New York on Sunday night, the Democratic Leader gave her full support to a Clinton nomination, seen right here in this video posted by Buzzfeed.

“I would love to see Secretary Clinton become the nominee for President in 2016,” Pelosi said during an appearance in the 92nd Street Y in New York City Sunday night.
“I do think the Secretary should entertain the thought of running in 2016,” said the former Speaker of the House, who was formally neutral in 2008 but was widely viewed as tacitly supporting Senator Barack Obama, then Clinton’s bitter rival. “Hasn’t she been a magnificent Secretary of State?”

What I love about this story is that it’s the whole essence of getting off the sidelines. Regardless of whether or not Clinton will entertain the notion, the fact that many high profile people see her potential and are encouraging her to run should serve as a model for all of us. If you know a woman who you think would be great at public service, sit her down and tell her she should run! You’re never too young to take action in that way.
What do you think of a possible Clinton campaign in 2016? Think she can be convinced? Send me your thoughts!

"I know that we need diversity in the Senate, and we need people who come to the job who really want to make a difference for the county, and when I look across the country, I see women who understand that."

Amen!

Happy Birthday, Senator Klobuchar!

Sending warm birthday wishes to Senator Amy Klobuchar (MN)! What better way to say happy birthday than to show some support for her campaign?

Back! (and, the reason why I haven’t updated)

I know, I know. I am a bit of a failure.

My last post was in December 2011 and I am well aware that a LOT of things have been happening in the arena of women and politics since then. But I am back, and in the coming weeks this blog will be back up and running in full force (I promise!!)

So what had I been up to in the past four months that completely distracted me from my feminist-political-junkie-blogger status?

I was studying abroad in London, and not only that, but also doing an internship with a member of Parliament. It was a fantastic, eye-opening experience and I came out if it with a great appreciation for the way the Brits do things (but more on that a little later). Needless to say, it’s great to be back in the swing of American politics -especially with the 2012 elections starting to heat up!

For now, some of my favorite women-in-politics happenings in past few months:

• President Obama urges more women to run for Congress.
• Texts from Hillary, Hillary without makeup, basically everything having to do with our one and only Secretary of State.
• This video.

And some recent not-so-favorite happenings:

• War on Caterpillars
• Congress’ basic butchery of the Violence Against Women Act.
• The House Subcommittee’s refusal to let Eleanor Holmes-Norton testify at a hearing regarding abortion restrictions in DC.

The road to November will be long and windy (with some May and June primaries on the way) but who’s ready to get more women in office?

On December 6th, Senators Claire McCaskill (D-MO) and Susan Collins (R-ME) introduced the Bipartisan Jobs Act, “a commonsense jobs bill” which would cut taxes for business and invest in infrastructure, funded by a surtax on millionaires and tax break repeals for oil companies.

Cambridge — Cambridge voters sent City Councilor Sam Seidel packing Tuesday and welcomed community activist Minka vanBeuzekom as the newest councilor as all other incumbents held on to their seats.

Minka vanBeuzekom wins a seat on the Cambridge City Council! Find all the details in the link above, and check out my interview with Minka right here.

Ayanna Pressley, the top vote-getter in the at-large Boston City Council race yesterday, said her victory was the result of an aggressive ground game and her effort to reach out to voters in all sections of the city.

Pressley, the first African-American woman to serve on the council, was at one point deemed vulnerable in Tuesday’s election, but ultimately topped the ticket – an achievement that black political leaders and advocates hailed.

“This is a major victory on several fronts,’’ said Cheryl Clyburn Crawford, co-director of MassVOTE, a nonprofit voter and civic organization. “She didn’t just win because she was black, but because she is the right woman.”

Pressley defied expectations in the at-large election after her campaign kicked into high gear in the final weeks with help from fellow candidate John R. Connolly and other elected officials.

A huge congratulations to Councillor Ayanna Pressley for 1st place re-election to the Boston City Council at-Large!

PHOENIX — When President George H.W. Bush came to visit her in the hospital, Rep. Gabrielle Giffords could say only “Wow!” and another word she had been uttering frequently at the time, “chicken.”

Months later, when she was shown photos of famous people to see if she recognized faces, Giffords looked at Arnold Schwarzenegger and replied, more or less accurately: “Messin’ around. Babies.”

These and other details emerge in a new book written by Giffords and her husband that offers the most personal look yet at her slow, agonizing recovery after being shot in the head at point-blank range.

The memoir, titled “Gabby: A Story of Courage and Hope,” describes Giffords’ efforts over the past 10 months to relearn how to walk and talk, and her painful discovery that six people were killed in the Jan. 8 attack outside a Tucson grocery store.

Check out the Huffington Post’s article on Gabrielle Giffords’ and Mark Kelly’s new memoir, out November 15th.
